San Lorenzo, or 'Cuculla', at 2,271 metres, is the highest peak in La Rioja and the second in the Iberian System after Moncayo. It forms part of the Sierra de la Demanda, which the Romans knew as the 'Distercios' mountains, in its eastern part; its prominence is 1,118 metres and it marks the boundary between Ezcaray and Mansilla de la Sierra.
There is a Roman altar dedicated to Dercetius, and the hermitage of San Lorenzo appears in writings from the late Middle Ages. The Calamantío valley flows into the Najerilla, and the streams Rehoyo and Usaya into the Oja.
On its slopes is the Valdezcaray ski resort, and you climb by the LR-415 and LR-416 roads from Ezcaray. A summit with wide views over the range.
