Parque Rural de Anaga
Tenerife, Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Canarias

The Anaga massif occupies the northeast tip of Tenerife and holds the greatest number of endemic species in Europe. It was declared a rural park in 1994 and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve on 9 June 2015; its total area is 48,727 hectares, of which 15,489 are land and 33,238 marine.
It is volcanic in origin, with basalts and phonolites between 7 and 9 million years old, and the rocks and dykes laid bare by erosion stand out. The highest point is Cruz de Taborno (1,020 m). The trade-wind fog brings horizontal rain to the summits, where laurel forest and heath woodland grow.
Anaga gave its name to a Guanche kingdom, and many Guanche mummies have been found there. In Taganana, the church of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves was built in 1513 and has been a Site of Cultural Interest since 2006. You can get there by road from La Laguna via El Bailadero, and a network of PR-TF trails runs through the massif.
Warm clothing is recommended, as it is often cool. On clear days you can see Teide on one side and the north coast on the other.
