The Calblanque, Monte de las Cenizas and Peña del Águila park is in the eastern sector of the Cartagena-La Unión mining range, near the Mar Menor and Cabo de Palos. Almost all its area belongs to Cartagena, and part to La Unión. It has been a regional park since 30 July 1992 (Law 4/1992), covers 2,453 hectares and is protected for its biodiversity and numerous botanical endemics.

Cartagena cypress (Tetraclinis articulata) and Cartagena rockrose grow here, the latter in grave danger after the fire of 1988, and the Spanish toothcarp, an endangered fish, lives here.

Mining dates back to Roman times, and the Roman villa of El Paturro is nearby. Its beaches include Cala Dorada, Calblanque beach and Cala Parreño. Since 2010 motorised access has been regulated each summer by an annual order and shuttle buses, so it is wise to check before you go.
