Las Hurdes is a historical and natural region in the north of the province of Cáceres, in Extremadura. Although it is not an administrative comarca, several municipalities form the Las Hurdes association of municipalities; those of the comarca are Caminomorisco, Casares de las Hurdes, Ladrillar, Nuñomoral and Pinofranqueado.
The terrain is slate and schist, with seven rivers and peaks of more than 1,600 metres. Maritime pine, yew, strawberry tree, chestnut and oak grow here.
In the early 1930s Luis Buñuel filmed Las Hurdes, tierra sin pan here. Steep valleys and slate villages in a very well-preserved natural territory.
