The Garganta de los Infiernos Nature Reserve is a protected area in the north of the province of Cáceres, at the western end of the Sierra de Gredos. It was created on 14 November 1994, is managed by the Junta de Extremadura, covers 6,927.5 hectares and spans the municipalities of Jerte and Cabezuela del Valle.
Between 600 and 2,000 metres of altitude there are forests of oak, strawberry tree, chestnut and cherry, riverside woods of alder, ash and willow, and mountain grasslands; protected species include yew, holly and birch. The water has carved out large pools, with waterfalls, streams and cascades.
Wildcat, genet, otter, Iberian ibex and Pyrenean desman live here, along with golden eagle, griffon vulture and eagle owl. The black stork is also present, though increasingly scarce.
