Cabo Peñas is a point of the Principality of Asturias, in the municipality of Gozón, and the place where the Asturian coast juts furthest into the Cantabrian Sea. Its cliffs exceed 100 metres and are of Armorican quartzite.
It has been a Protected Landscape since Decree 80/1995, with 19.2 km², and is in the Natura 2000 network as a Site of Community Importance since 2014 and a partial Special Protection Area for Birds since 2003. Its Paleozoic geological series is, according to the source, the best represented in northern Spain. There are gorse-heather scrub, wild olive and laurel, and the European storm petrel and the European shag live here.
The lighthouse has operated since 1852; before that the place was marked with a fire. There is an interpretation centre in it. A place to feel the rough sea at its purest, especially in a storm.
