As Catedrais beach is the tourist name of Augas Santas beach, in Ribadeo (Lugo), beside the Cantabrian Sea, about ten kilometres west of the town. It is a natural monument, declared by the Xunta de Galicia. It measures about 880 metres long by about 50 wide, with great variation.
Its arches exceed thirty metres in height and are of eroded slate and schist, on the Cantabrian coastal platform. At low tide the arches and caves reveal a landscape reminiscent of the naves of a cathedral; at spring tides you can reach neighbouring beaches, with caution.
In 2015 the Xunta introduced a pass system to restrict access, so it is wise to find out before you go. You get there by the N-634 and the Esteiro and Reinante railway halts. Check the tides before you go.
