In the north of Fuerteventura, in the municipality of La Oliva, lies Corralejo Natural Park, with more than 2,600 hectares protected since 1994. Its dunes are the largest in the Canary Islands and, after its white-sand beaches, the island's main tourist attraction.
A field of moving dunes partly covers fossil dunes probably dating from the Upper Pleistocene, and in several places along the coast a fossil beach with remains of marine organisms emerges. The sand comes from the breakdown of mollusc shells and other marine organisms. White sand, turquoise sea and clean light.
