Cap de Cavalleria is the northernmost tip of Menorca, in the municipality of Es Mercadal, near the port of Sanitja. There you will find the Cap de Cavalleria Ecomuseum, created in 1997 to protect and study the cultural and natural heritage of the area. Its cliffs exceed 90 metres.
The lighthouse, from 1857, stands at the end of the cape, on a cliff of 94 metres, and was built after several shipwrecks on the coast. Before reaching the cape you pass the natural port of Sanitja, ancient Sanisera, which for 2,000 years was the island's third most important port; the excavations on the side opposite the cove are some of the best evidence of Roman presence on Menorca.
Reddish earth, wind and a lighthouse above the cliffs make up an austere, wild landscape, far from the busier coves.
