The Dunas de Liencres and Costa Quebrada Natural Park, in Cantabria, stretches between Miengo, Piélagos and Santa Cruz de Bezana, and today covers 1,753.14 hectares. Its origin is Decree 101/1986 and it was declared a natural park by Cantabrian Law 2/2021 of 28 April.
It is a coastline of coastal rises, abrasion platforms, cliffs, tombolos and islets. There are coastal heath and stands of maritime, stone and Monterey pine, with orchids growing beneath the trees, and communities of seabirds.
The dunes began to be stabilised in 1949 and reforestation continued until 1973. You can visit the beaches of Valdearenas and Canallave, walk through the pinewood or climb La Picota (239 m). Cliffs, islets and dunes on a wild stretch of the Cantabrian coast, minutes from Santander.
