The Bardenas Reales are a semi-desert area of about 40,000 hectares in southeastern Navarre, with altitudes between 280 and 659 metres. They have been a natural park since 1999 (Foral Law 10/1999 of 6 April), with two nature reserves since 1986, the Rincón del Bú and the Caídas de la Negra, and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since November 2000.

Its materials are Tertiary and Quaternary, with about 4 km of sediment thickness. Crops cover 60% of the territory and rosemary scrub 26.5%; there are more than a hundred nesting bird species, 24 of them raptors. Castildetierra is one of its most remarkable formations, with an estimated lifespan of about forty years.

A royal charter from Philip V, dated 14 April 1705, is part of its history. You get there by the N-121, NA-125 and NA-126. Ravines, buttes and eroded clays that look like another continent, with especially beautiful light at dawn and dusk.
