Huesca · Aragón

Photo: Rincón del Sibarita

The Maladeta massif, in Huesca, reaches the greatest height in the Pyrenees. To the north lies the head of the Benasque valley and to the south the Vallibierna valley descends. In it rises Aneto, the highest peak in the range, at about 3,404 metres (3,403.5 according to the most precise measurement).

It is a granite massif. The Aneto glacier, on the north face, is the largest in the Pyrenees and is receding. Among its summits are Pico Maldito (3,356 m), Punta de Astorg (3,355 m) and Pico Alba (3,118 m).

The Renclusa refuge, at 2,149 metres, is the highest inhabitable point of the massif. Real high mountain, with residual glaciers, lakes and valleys for experienced walkers.
