The Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park covers 53,411 hectares between eastern Cádiz and western Serranía de Ronda, and includes parts of fourteen municipalities. It is made up of several ranges, among them Zafalgar, Pinar, Endrinal and Caíllo; its highest point is the peak of El Torreón, at 1,648 metres. It was declared a Biosphere Reserve in 1977 and a natural park in 1985.
Limestone predominates, giving karst relief such as caves and gorges. In some places rainfall exceeds 2,000 mm. Its most characteristic plant formation is the pinsapo fir forest (Abies pinsapo), and the park holds more than 1,375 taxa.
More than 200 vertebrate species are catalogued and there is one of the largest colonies of griffon vulture in Europe. In 1971 ICONA bought the pinsapo forest, and in 1992 a fire at Monte Prieto burned more than 800 hectares. It can be reached by the N-342, C-344 and C-3331 roads.
